I hadn't realised that. But he didn't need to change his name from Anthony Wedgwood, did he?

Now you're beginning to sound a lot like your forum admirer ...

You have been told time and again what it means and indeed you seemed to tacitly accept that when you requested other examples apart from Ms Abbott!

Certainly other socialists don't appear to have your faux-comprehension problem ...

The reasons I was asking for examples is that you and BO (and Rod Liddle, whoever he is) seem to think this "faux-leftism" has an enormous influence on public discourse and particularly on "political correctness" but on the other hand seem unable or unwilling to give examples of the mechanism by which this works, apart from naming a number of not-particularly-influential Labour politicians, plus Billy Bragg of whom I would imagine not many people under the age of forty have heard at all.

He didn't change it exactly - Tony is quite a common abbreviation for Anthony, and who bothers with their middle name unless they're American?

                        Shocking stereotype. I'm disappointed.

Bear in mind that he could also have styled himself the second Viscount Stansgate until he disclaimed this title in 1963 (as soon as the Peerage Act of that year enabled him to do so). But what he chose to call himself is hardly relevant to his work in politics, surely.

Allowing private businesses the tax loophole of charitable status while they run private schools really needs to stop.
You could also argue that the fact that Gove sends his children to a state school supports the point I was making - that whether MPs follow that example is less important than the educational policies they support and promote. Gove has arguably promoted some very divisive and regressive educational policies and certainly never had the slightest intention of doing anything about public schools.

I do agree about the charitable status issue - ending that loophole is I think Green party policy and really ought to be Labour policy.
