    Why shouldn't he ... ? I agree it's not particularly complicated.

If the motive is to protect the innocent it could even be described as a noble calling and one that most of us would be far too scared to undertake.

Anyway, I'm off now to my local Wetherspoons to meet an old friend who also happens to be an atheist and a former Young Socialist, though he has matured politically since then, I'm relieved to say ...

    Enjoy your afternoon!

I'm off to meet my friends in the Vegan Butchers association in the Temperance Tavern where they sell a fine 7% Ruby Porter

"Love your enemies" = "blow their brains out"

No contradiction there at all ;-)

Because doing such things is surely in direct contradiction to what Jesus is supposed to have said. Or did he say somewhere that it's OK to kill people?

If this scottycism's to prevail, can we perhaps all call one another scotty?...

On a more serious note, the potency of argument when a self-confessed (and, for the sake of clarity, I do NOT use that term in any pejorative sense, in case any member here might construe otherwise!) Marxist and non-Christian cites examples from Christian scripture that all clarify the position on the subject for the benefit of Christians and others is far from lost on me; it's a pity that it nevertheless seems to be lost on some...

I think he must have done.
Those Quakers really have got the wrong end of the stick

If he did, I suppose that I wasn't listening...

That is of no comfort whatsoever to oppressed Palestinians.

Were that to have a grain of truth in it, I'd shudder to imagine what being a citizen of a non-democratic state must be like!

                        Good Afternoon Again!

You're at that imagining thing, once more, Mr Barrett ... the world is as it is ... like John Lennon we can dream and imagine all we like but it doesn't change reality.

Oh yes we can help to improve our world in so many ways but that isn't going to stop others trying to kill us or destroy our way of life.

Sad, but clearly true, even according to the Forum Bible!

Yes, it's how I make a living actually.

The thing about Quakers is that if I recall correctly they base their religion principally on what Jesus is supposed to have said, rather than on subsequent accretions; and for this reason they are pacifists.
