Yes, there most definitely are. What decade is this out of touch headmistress living in?

Teenagers want to wear what they feel comfortable in, what they think is 'trendy', what they think is cool; this is how teenagers are - all part of growing up. God knows what the headmistress was thinking when she alluded to the fact that school uniform prepares them for adult life!!!!!! May be for her adult life, which one could surmise must by all accounts be not of this world....

“Our uniform and dress codes set the tone for our community and provide the scaffolding for high standards in every aspect of school life,”
Hanson school is proud of the achievements made over the past couple of years and we continue our drive for excellence. The school has a responsibility to properly prepare our young people for the world of work and this means understanding the appropriate dress required in today’s society.
      what utter tosh and nonsense

Yep MrGG - well put. The above is exactly as you describe.

And, what is remotely appropriate about clothing that is pretty much universally disliked by those forced to wear it, and where in adult life would one wear it? Except maybe in some dubious X-rated "club" that perhaps the proponents of school uniform have greater experience of than most? Just saying...

Sign of the times. We've never had it so good, too much material wealth goin' on in Britain.

When I was a teenager, we were happy to have a uniform, that way no-one knew we hadn't much else by way of clothes. Meant the well-off kids didn't look much difference to the rest of us.

Now days, it's all expensive trainers, hair dye, ear rings, tattoos, iPhones etc, etc. All spoilt brats. And the parents all going on Facebook! Tossers!

All different now - the price of progress, I suppose.

Ah yes, trouble is, the price of progress has shot up over the years. Started with decimalisation, before that the price of progress was 2/6 , IIRC.

I blame the youth of today. And also the youth of yesterday.

Edit; where is PG ScottyPee when you need him?

We used to dream of having a uniform! Best we could do was an old sack, lined with straw in the winter - if we were lucky.

Anyway, with foreigners taking all our jobs, we'll soon be back in the good old days with no expensive trainers or any of that modern rubbish.

Noise. Chaos. What's wrong with tunes and melodies? Political correctness gone mad.

Tunes AND melodies? Huh, typical modern day self indulgence. It was a tune OR a melody back then, one per song. I think they were rationed during the war.

And now it's one voice per part.

AND DON'T TALK ABOUT THE WAR!!!
