They probably are capable, but they think empty rhetoric makes them appear to be doing something useful. One thing the previous (Labour) administration did well was to sort out state education and push it in the right direction. It was the best period for state education for several decades. Then Gove arrived with his destructive agenda.

      Utter nonsense
      "Experimental nonsense" ?
Myth and received wisdom i'm afraid
Like Gove you seem reluctant to listen to the folks (like our Swiss Breakfast mate) who really DO know about these things.

I did suspect that I might not be quite alone in that...

            I'm listening, but I don't hear much.

                Absolutely
I'm no fan of the Labour party
BUT at the start of their government I would have had to have a double espresso breakfast before going into some of the inner London primary schools I sometimes work in. The quality of the teaching, learning and ethos of those schools changed massively in the time of the Labour government. Sadly, this is in danger of being ruined by the idea of "Hogwarts for all" :-(

Better even that than "beer for all", peut-être...

I would agree that Nicky Morgan's more involvement style approach is more appropriate than Gove's go-it-alone approach. But she's not going to alter policy, much.

What you appear to be saying is that Nicki Morgan will pretend to listen, but will do Gove's own thing anyway.
