On the subject of music: I have learned an enormous amount from talking to people (including here!) who aren't professionally involved with music. On the other hand if a politician came up to me and told me how he/she thought I should do it, the words "f*** off" would spring uncontrollably to my lips.

If they told you how they thought you should do music, or politics?

I know politicians (they are Green Party councillors) that I have the greatest respect for, and I would take seriously anything they had to say about how to do politics.

But if it comes to forming education policy, I would expect input from people actually working in education.

No, he's the solution, not the problem. Several years ago, before Gove was minister, I used to talk to other parents who also had children in school, and the variation between schools, just in north London was unbelievable. And speaking to the teachers, including head teachers, they had such low expectations of the kids. These kids are friggin' bright, but the teachers were thick! Someone had to do something about comprehensives. They were so 'stale' and unambitious.

No Harry, Gove's the daddy and I hope the strategic vision that he had, is not abandoned by his successors.

And the tens of millions (billions?) being spent on so-called free schools is a step in the right direction?
