No need; you can get a fairly good idea from this thread.

If you could point me to the bit where i say that everything would be sorted in education if we got
rid of classroom discipline, I would be very grateful, and surprised.

The control issues are further up.

where I certainly DIDNT say that getting rid of classroom discipline would sort everything out.

Please stop misrepresenting me, and if you are unsure about what I mean, perhaps you could either ask me to clarify, (on an appropriate thread) or ignore it.

take this over to the Gove thread if you want to continue this , I suggest.

Not at all. I was just getting into the spirit that this thread seems to have evolved into.....!

Very glad to hear it - but it wasn't at all evident from your contributions to the Gove thread.

On the subject of music: I have learned an enormous amount from talking to people (including here!) who aren't professionally involved with music. On the other hand if a politician came up to me and told me how he/she thought I should do it, the words "f*** off" would spring uncontrollably to my lips.

If they told you how they thought you should do music, or politics?

I know politicians (they are Green Party councillors) that I have the greatest respect for, and I would take seriously anything they had to say about how to do politics.

But if it comes to forming education policy, I would expect input from people actually working in education.

And speaking to the teachers, including head teachers, they had such low expectations of the kids. These kids are friggin' bright, but the teachers were thick! Someone had to do something about comprehensives. They were so 'stale' and unambitious.

No Harry, Gove's the daddy and I hope the strategic vision that he had, is not abandoned by his successors.
And the tens of millions (billions?) being spent on so-called free schools is a step in the right direction?

Are you saying that the government has not consulted professional bodies, in relation to its education policy? I thought it had.

Is there evidence that Gove has listened, understood, and acted on their professional advice?

Given his obsession with 'free' schools, I think not.

                          Remember, he's only a journalist.

The clue is at the beginning of my post: "on the subject of music".

I imagine (from the results) that Gove and his pals "consulted" professional educators the way US Republicans "consult" climate scientists.

Why is the whole thing so totally ballsed up then? Answer; because politically-motivated charlatans are in charge.
