State of the parties as 2015 General Election looms.

Things really seem to have moved on quite a bit in the last few weeks, in British electoral politics.

According to experts, the three main parties are almost neck and neck - the poll puts the position as this:

    Conservatives 31%
    Labour 31%
    UKIP 26%
    LibDems 8%

Labour really should be doing better - Miliband doesn't seem to have the confidence of his party or the electorate.

Cameron's strategy appears to be no more than warning people that a vote for UKIP will give you Miliband and the Cons could lose 100 seats.

UKIP are on target for 128 sets.

The LibDems and Clegg have worked very hard to steer themselves to 8% and they thoroughly deserve this prize.

It might turn out to be one of the most interesting general election in living memory.

    Hang on a minute Oxoboy
Before you wet yourself with excitement
Those percentages add up to 96%
That's 96% of people who might vote

All those who DON'T vote seem to be missing ?

Hmmm ... just one more thing, ma'am ...

How are the people who DON'T vote going to make much of a difference to the result of the next General Election?

Or have I missed something very subtle here ... ?

          Yes you have
One of the reasons so many people voted in the Scottish Referendum was that there really was a choice between two things
In UK politics there doesn't seem to be one

          So maybe the question is
How is voting for any of them going to make much of a difference ?

Politicians like to pretend that by getting 51% of the votes of a turnout of 13% (for example) means that they are supported by most people.

A bit more humility wouldn't go amiss IMV

The actual figures from Survation are: are Cons & Lab 31%, LibDems 7%, Ukip 25%, Others 9% (which adds up to 103%)

Considering this was a poll conducted on Friday evening, immediately after the elections when there was mass media coverage, the fact that it was commissioned by The Mail on Sunday, that just 1003 people were interviewed of which 70% were male and over 75% were aged 55+ and the majority C2 and DE - I don't think this Poll is really representative.

Good grief, you sound like a UKIP voter! I'd watch that, if I were you.

The ones i'm worried about are those in Northern France
With the 40 mile "exclusion zone" they will find themselves unable to go for a "petit voyage de pêche" without the Royal Navy bearing down on them in gunboats

Or have they ditched that one along with the repainting trains in "Traditional British Colours"
or the taxi drivers "dress code" ?

With classic CSE media studies attention-to-detail Bill Tong missed this from the same piece...

"However, private polling analysis seen by The Sunday Times puts UKIP on course to win a maximum of 25 MPs, which is still far higher than earlier predictions."

Unfortunately for Bill, the rest of the seats that UKIP will be contesting will not feature as its candidate a popular former Tory MP.

HeHe, I think you are experiencing that old chestnut, 'cognitive dissonance'.

If it helps, I might even play along with you ;-)

Some of them will, however; I predict a continuous trickle of defecations, I mean defections, from the loony right of the Tory party to UKIP over the coming months, at the end of which UKIP will surely have some difficulty representing itself as something fundamentally different from the shower that are in charge now.

Those of us interested in culture might be a little concerned with the kipper "policy"

                            – UKIP recognises and values an overarching, unifying British culture, which is open and inclusive to anyone who wishes to identify with Britain and British values, regardless of their ethnic or religious background.
I'm not sure your mates have thought this through

                            and this ?

                            – UKIP will abolish the Department for Culture Media and Sport.
                            Replaced with ?
                            Or just gone ?

                              - replace "British" with "German" and what does that sound like?
