Or perhaps not. “All that sedatives do is reduce your ability to restrain and hide your true thoughts,” says David Nutt, Edmond J Safra professor of neuropsychopharmacology and director of the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit at Imperial College London. “Politicians spend their whole lives telling people what they think people want to hear, and not what they believe. That takes quite a lot of effort. We know from brain imaging studies that lying and hiding things consumes more brainpower than telling the truth, so if people are repressing something they don’t want people to know, they have to actively work [at it]. When you are sedated, the control centres of your brain are dampened down and the underlying deeper truths are less likely to be suppressed and they come to the surface.”

It's about when people stop talking about them - any publicity is good publicity. When ya gonna learn?

Ignoring people who talk claptrap is often a good ploy, though it doesn't always stop those who are fond of the sound of their own voice(s).

Precisely ... and few things are more 'embarrassing' than liberal-leftists (and Marxists) getting their knickers in a twist and foaming at the mouth over anything to do with UKIP.

It's like 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' in reverse and just as pathetic.

              Hmm.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

"UKIP could not afford to be too principled "

                Sums them up.

I see that the foul Ian Duncan Smith is now considering limiting child benefits to the first two children in a family. (He himself has four children, poor b***ards.) This idea is clearly designed to prevent poor people from breeding, but if it works who's going to do the crap jobs in future? EU immigrants?

That won't do much for those who (like IDS himself) already have more than two but who (unlike IDS) are poor, will it?! It doesn't look as though the party's going overboard to make itself electable, does it?

Although the forum is pretty left-wing, and IDS is a right wing Tory, I don't think we should bring his children into the discussion and/or call them b***ards.

HaHa. I of course was drawing attention to how stupid O'Flynn's explanation was. And he's an experienced journalist, too.

This is a tricky one. I do think it's irresponsible for people to have large families (rich or poor) as the world is overpopulated and people who produce more than 2 children are contributing to the problem. But child benefit is for the needs of the children, who are innocent victims of this discussion having never asked to be born.
