If one has some notion as to what something is but has yet to have direct personal experience of it, it seems perfectly reasonable to me to be entitled to express "doubts", which are not, of course, the same as outright condemnations.

Had I not participated in them (and, for the record, I didn't and was not even in the country at the time), I would not have expected my views on them to carry the same weight as those of someone who was in the thick of them; this is not about whether two people who did participate agree with one another's views on it or about whether two people who didn't participate do the same - it's about the extent to which each individual is in a position to form views based upon direct participatory experience.

Kippers have form in blaming drugs for crap coming out of their mouths - didn't Godfrey Bloom go off on an incoherent rant in the European Parliament which was blamed on "heavy medication" after a horseriding accident ("and I'd probably had a couple of pints")? I wonder if there's any medical evidence that sedatives make you racist. I would guess not.
