    Further devolution following Scottish referendum

As there are likely to be proposals for further devolution to Scotland and perhaps other parts of the UK following the Scottish referendum, I thought it might be worth having a thread to monitor/discuss developments.

I think this is quite an interesting article on the situation in Wales:

Simon Jenkins: The upheaval after Scotland’s vote should bring a historic moment for Wales. But, can it finally seize the opportunity to become more than a ‘nearly nation’?

I lived for quite a few years in South Wales with some pretty poor local government, though I haven't lived there under the devolved government so don't really know how well that has worked. I'm not sure whether additional devolved powers would be a good thing, though I am ready to be convinced. Wales seems to do reasonably well under the Barnett formula, though not as well as Scotland. There certainly seems to be no demand at all for independence.

I think that's a pretty fair analysis of the problems, and seems to distribute the 'blame' fairly too. Unless you happen to favour one 'side' over the other.

Interesting to read the confirmation(?) that Scotland is such a beneficiary of Barnett, and England not. Also a general point which I simply have no idea how well it equates to the English situation: that the richest will never be, alone, the milch cows financing the poor.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
