It wasn't my topic in the first place and, in any case, if you really believe that it "seemed to have well-nigh hit the buffers almost as soon it left the departing station", why did you contribute a further off-topic (or indeed any) post to it..

I didn't introduce the off-topic 'Scottish' bit to this thread though I'd be dishonest if I said that when the word 'inventions' is mentioned it's not one of the first words that spring to mind ...

I was in Scotland at the time
before the referendum (remember that ?) and there were loads of things in the press about how Scotland was the origin of more or less EVERYTHING
