To be fair the old bigot wasn't a hypocrite - he really believed the bile & hatred he spewed.

But he claimed to be a Christian. All the Christians I know are fine and very loving people, and practice what I call Christian values.

The phoney doctor definitely does NOT exist in that category.

For one of the forum's leading conspiracy theorists, I am somewhat surprised at your sudden request for 'evidence'.

Caution and circumspection is never a bad policy when posting on a public forum.
I'll not take advice from you about ignoring the hypocrisy of the man and his self-serving volte-face and his "Save Ulster From Sodomy" campaign ta everso, whichever one of your multi-personalities I'm addressing at the moment scottyTipps.

Shame then that he changed his tune when a peerage was offered and suddenly he was breasting the tape at the Peace Process finishing line.

My considered advice notwithstanding, surely if the good Dr Paisley believed Ulster desperately needed saving from the Sodomites he had a perfect right to start his famous campaign?

Mind you, I still chuckle at that wonderful campaign title ... and, in any case, compared to those constantly ear-bashed Papists and other despised heretics, the lucky Sodomites got off rather lightly, I think.<chuckle>

It couldn't have had anything to do with stirring up , of course. Wretched man.

Cheers scotty, as usual your Honorary doctorate in provocation & personal insensitivity is well to the fore.

I don't know whether this mysteriously elusive 'Scotty' will be particularly cheered by any of this, amateur51, but I do urge you to play the 'big ball' and not the 'wee man'.

We are here to discuss the hugely colourful and influential life of the late Dr I. Paisley, not the alleged and wholly irrelevant personality shortcomings of such a minor figure as Mr P. G. Tipps ...

"Joking" aside, I really wonder if your Roman Catholic friends would see it quite that way. Assuming, that is, you have any. Or are you on some new ecumenical quest - like, we're all in it together?

Oh, I have indeed one or two Papist friends, believe me, and my only 'quest' is to express an opinion on a public forum, unlike some who frequently espouse what they wrongly consider to be 'human rights' and others who constantly preach socialist revolution!

I've already indicated that I personally suffered physically at the hands of Dr Paisley's natural supporters many years ago, so I don't need to be reminded of the bigotry which existed previously (and still does to a thankfully lesser extent).

That is not in dispute. What appears to be disputed is that Dr Paisley changed over time, though the fact that he did is willingly and publicly acknowledged by his former enemies.

So why the stubborn unwillingness here to acknowledge this fact by those who, I'm not aware, were ever in a position to be 'in the know'?

Because for those who did not take a "my enemy's enemy is my friend" approach to N ireland during the Troubles it was hard to accept that people on the mainland could be bombed into holding a correct line on Ireland.
