    Crazy people with weapons

It's easy to blame fanatics in the Middle East or in Ukraine (viz today's civil airliner crash) for firing off rockets willy nilly...it really beggars belief....but who is supplying whom with sophisticated and phenomenally expensive weaponry? The super-powers all know which of them is supplying arms to whom (and they're all at it) so for goodness sake why doesn't common sense prevail?

Because the UK (like most other countries) believes that making money is more important than peoples lives.

But in the immediate future, this seems to be a question of where the Ukraine crisis goes next.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It's not only superpowers which supply weapons. I heard it said several times that Sweden, a neutral country, supplies tanks to "friendly" countries for defence purposes. According to reports, Hungary was one of the "beneficiaries", and may have had the equivalent of one tank for every street.

        Volvo don't only make cars.

Not merely sad but also very grave indeed.

I confess that I've contributed to the supply of such weaponry myself - or at least I did so last time I had to pay any tax; conscience can be a terrible and terrifying thing...

...mind you, I think we can make a shrewd guess that it wasn't Sweden who supplied the 'boys' toys' currently in the news.

modern weaponry is not needed to produce mayhem - Moslem literalists have just succeeded with that most ancient weapon of the sword & taking Islam back to its origins

Yes, but around 300 killed in one go is more "efficient". Depends also on the kind of mayhem, and timescale. One man killing another in Sarajevo is often considered to be the starting point of WWI.
