Scaremongering? Much as I don't approve of the licence fee as a form of funding, to talk of the cost to 'families' is strange when an entire family - and even families of four wage-earners - get their TV entertainment for one single fee (and 40p a day). Three years ago two thirds of households had at least three sets.

Cutting the fee leading to the closure of services would mean less choice and more repeats. And the public would be the first to criticise.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Blimey ff, just 40p per day!? But that's only £2.80 per week!

Crikey, with fags being £8.70 a packet and a pint of beer being over £3.00 even the working classes can afford a licence, and the people on benefits. It's a relief that when the fee is replaced with something else, we won't need to worry about whether those who are less well-off will be able to afford it. You can't get a tattoo for less than £80 these days and as for a pit bull, they start at around £870, so the value will be recognised, immediately.
