Another one is don't buy any Reginald Goodall records - life is too short for Wagner that takes that long
Use of the ignore function is generally used by people who are stuck in their own opinions, and who are so narrow minded that they can't function in the real world. No names needed of course, but I know I'm on at least one person's ignore list. It's a sad feature of this message board (IMO).
* He started Valkyrie slowly (for example) but over the first several pages of the score he accelerated to the point where people were on the edge of their seats (audience AND orchestra).
So generalisations are often rubbish, and should be avoided. (But a dare say someone will come up with duration comparisons - as if that's how you judge great art and interpretations).

One very good example is the prescribing of retinoid tablets for mild acne.
there are others, notably of course antibiotics.
If you don't think that many doctors are in the pockets of big drug companies, take a wander round your local GP surgery and take a look at what is on the wall.
This ought to worry us a lot more that patients choosing alternative therapies.
The control of the NHS by drug companies and private management companies is the big issue, concerns over the miniscule NHS spend on homeopathy, (which many people want to use) is nothing more than distraction.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. Being opposed to the fraud that is homeopathy isn't the same as saying that drug companies are the retail branch of the Quakers !
Lumping things together as "alternative therapies" is a bit iffy IMV
If I go to see a medical herbalist (as I have done) they are likely to give me something with an active ingredient NOT suggest I stick a candle in my ear or take a sugar pill !!!
Whether people "want to use" it or not is beside the point.
I would like to stop taking ACE inhibitors for hypertension and have bottles of Talisker prescribed instead if that's ok by you!

I think that what the people who pay for the NHS want, is an important consideration.
This report shows the statistical nonsense that is thrown around, misused, whatever.
Headline says that doctors want homeopathy removed from NHS treatments. Looked at another way, 45 % of healthcare professionals are content to continue using something like the 0.017% of NHS budget currently allocated.
Some people would say " Its not even medicine"....!! winkything:)I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I want informed evidence based medicine decided by people who know what they are talking about because they are intelligent enough to read and understand peer reviewed scientific papers.
I want to be given treatments that work not lucky rabbits feet and magic water because if I am REALLY ill i'm more likely to die with the rabbits feet and water.
We need to take this fraud away from the NHS because by funding it the NHS confers legitimacy on it.
If people want to buy sugar pills that's fine by me.

i don't want to live in a system where we are told what to do by those who know best. Leads to trouble , generally.
Intelligence, however measured, and of whatever sort, does not equal integrity. The peer review system may be very important, but its not infallible, by a long way, especially where money is involved.
The legitimacy that the NHS confers on things like homeopathy are an important statement in the battle for control in which big drugs companies and american management companies hold all the powerful cards.
I'll try remember your thoughts on intelligence next time a doctor (they are all clever because they got A's at 18) tells me to sort my eczema by using plastic gloves when inserting contact lenses.
or one prescribes oral retinoids to a kid of mine who has bit of acne.
and so on .
Nobody is making anybody use homeopathy, chinese medicine, or whatever. 45 % of clever healthcare professionals are ok with it, though.
Hmmmmmm.
Shall we chat about music instead in a minute, far more therapeutic !!I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

BUT
the point about having people who are skilled making judgements about these things is that one is less likely to die...
In my experience i would trust the surgeons who stopped me dying rather than "received wisdom"
Conferring legitimacy on Woo fakery helps no one except those who believe in fairies and think that summoning an angel will cure cancer !
Here's a handy guide
