    Employment Rules Of Conduct

Nicolas Anelka has been sacked for ventilating his frustrations with his club in a heat of the moment tweet. His club seem very angry that he said he'd decided to leave the club with immediate effect, outside of any 'legal process'. I suppose it's up to them to take their own view on how serious his actions are, and respond accordingly.

But, it seems, they weren't going to sack him for his antisemitic 'quenelle' gesture. Just a fine, an apology etc. Are the rules of conduct topsy-turvy, or the application of them? Or is it something else?

West Brom are sacking Nicolas Anelka for gross misconduct after he announced on social media he was quitting the club.

The tantrums of an over-paid footballer? Completely trivial.

The way that those in sought after and lucrative employment behave, or are treated by their employers, surely carries significance for the rest of us?

The problem with Anelka is that he is an absolute arse.
Plus he is no longer very good.

TBH, I think WBA may well get relegated.
Which is probably unrelated to the OP.

If you are employed with a contract that sets out conditions of behaviour, you abide by them or get disciplined or sacked. End of story. What is there to discuss?

Kicking racism out of football isn't trivial.

I suppose if you mean that you are white MrGongGong, and you don't see football as a significant cultural phenomenon, the attitude to racism of multi-million pound businesses like football clubs and their so-called commitment to kicking racism out of football won't concern you, I suppose. Some very self-centred and unpleasant attitudes being displayed today. Have I misunderstood you?

One might have expected Anelka to be dismissed, as per your rubric, for the antisemitic quenelle gesture. Seems odd that the club deemed his public statement a fundamental breach of conduct, but not his quenelle gesture. No going back if you say publicly, in the heat of the moment, that you quit, but always a second chance for offensive antisemitic public gestures, it seems.

I grew up in Merseyside in the 1970's so have had enough of the daft nonsense
I have no interest in football or the ridiculous nonsense that surrounds it
I'm sure it's important to some people
Football has always been full or rather nasty racist and violent tendencies
                      racism is unacceptable full stop.

I'm assuming this is about football then ?

I'm completely mystified about this gesture & why it's deemed ant-semitic. In my dictionary quenelles are small dumplinks made of fish or meat, simmered in water.
