When do we move on (but never forget)?

The Leader of Essex County Council has called for swastika symbols that form part of the County Hall facia to be removed because they might cause offence. I'm sure it's not lost on anyone how offence could be caused, but is there ever a time when we move on and understand things for what are, not for what the hi-jackers used them for?

An urgent meeting is demanded over the future of swastikas on Essex County Council's HQ building.

I occasionally watch the Northern Ireland Assembly on BBC Parliament, where it appears that interlinking swastikas form a pattern on the carpet, and they are a common architectural feature apparently
Swastikas are seen by many as a symbol of Nazi Germany but England is seemingly awash with them. Why?

as that article points out it is an ancient symbol for Hindus

Yes, it's often the way that symbols get hijacked by extremists. I remember being uncomfortable wearing anything with a flag of the union on it during the eighties. the flag of the union has been largely restored, but the English flag gets abused.

The image of the swastika on the spines of Kipling's novels in their Macmillan editions appears as a hindu symbol, but the arms of the cross are reversed. The nazis simply pinched it for themselves with the arms pointing to the right. Perhaps this was Himmler's idea, aryan mysticism was his favourite occupation.
