    Free School Meals

Nick Clegg marches on with free school meals for all infant school kids, saving parents £437 pa per child and telling us it will "bring children together from different backgrounds".

What a complete tool this Clegg college boy is! A complete middle-class prick!

I don't suppose that I and others on fat salaries back then, would have sent the money back when we had children in infant school, more money for luxury goods - no more than the people round my way can stop themselves thinking about what tattoo or fighting dog this windfall will fund. Or maybe they'll simply up-brand their choice of cigarettes or wife-beating lager!

I've got a better idea (which I have actually seen in a school)

We sit all the children on free school meals together on a table in the middle of the hall.
We make sure that everyone knows that they have poor parents and give them stale bread and cheese.
That way they will be encouraged to be more competitive and rise out of the failure that their parents have inflicted on them.
Maybe if we insist that ALL children on free meals wear a special star to identify them as well ?

Can't see any problem with that at all ??

Better idea is to use the money on educational trips, more specialist teachers and funded educational projects. Better support for sports, languages, music and other non-core curriculum subjects. But that wouldn't work for people like you and Clegg.

But if this works for you and Clegg, with your pianos in your homes, your bottles of single malts and exotic cheeses, children at university, go for it - sign-up and live in your pretend world where you think you are helping less fortunate people.

        TRY READING

I think Clegg, UKIP, Cameron, Milliband etc etc are ALL useless and only interested in their own and their mates interests

        Understand ?

People sharing food they have grown and cooked themselves is a fundamentally GOOD idea
regardless of who says it and what their supposed "politics" say........

            Totally agree.

So let's encourage packed lunches. Educate the (future?) parents to spend less on luxury goods for themselves, tattoos, fighting dogs, Stella Artois etc and prepare food for their children to eat at lunchtime at school, with other children. I'm not even a hippy or a middle class knob with an unbearable conscience, and it gets my vote!

The main purpose of the policy is not to save parents money: it's to ensure all children get a good meal every day.

What riles those who don't need any financial help with feeding their children healthily every day is that they are paying for the meals the less well-off families get. They can spend their school meal savings on luxury goods if they like, but they better make sure they're setting aside enough to pay their income tax - because 'the savings' will be clawed back from them. Isn't that why they think it's a bad idea?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                              Well said, french frank!

And there's some pretty good evidence that a child whose blood sugar is up to speed from a nourishing meal is one who'll get the best out of her/his lessons, I understand. Quieter classrooms and who knows, perhaps better exam results?

It's worth trying I say, particularly at a time when the use of Food Banks is sky-rocketing.
