The ‘rate an immigrant’ survey is part of a Ukip private survey of members aimed at helping the party draw up its policies. Sent last week by Ukip chairman Steve Crowther, it asks members to say ‘how close they feel’ to a number of groups. They include ‘Blacks, Asians, Muslims, English, Eastern Europeans and Whites’ as well as the four main political parties. Ukip activists are urged to rate each on a scale from 0 for ‘not close at all’ to 10 for ‘very close.’ - "Your responses will be invaluable in making sure we fulfil our promises over the coming years – and in government!"

Completing the survey gives respondents a chance to win cash prizes or a UKIP golf umbrella. Of course this is the Mail on Sunday rather than a proper news outlet, but it shouldn't be too hard to check whether this story is true.

I guess UKIP chairman Steve Crowther must be on some kind of racism-inducing medication as well.

They're not doing very well in South Basildon, are they? To lose one potential candidate may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose three looks like a total f**k-up.
If the same pattern repeats in other constituencies they'll be very lucky to have anybody for people to vote for, let alone any MPs in Westminster after May next year.

Yes indeed. It's a farce. It is unlikely that there will be many more like this.

I suspect they will have a very large field of candidates, perhaps in excess of 500.

And this sort of thing does not appear to be doing them much harm. Which says a lot about politics (nothing that we didn't know)

        (mind your implied foul language)

More from the You Couldn't Make It Up department:

Nigel Farage has been likened to Jesus by Ukip’s Commonwealth spokesperson, Winston McKenzie. “Jesus was one man, we’re his army. Farage is one man, and we’re his army and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.
“Farage is like Teflon – he can do no wrong. Everywhere he goes, it doesn’t matter what he says or does - he gets away with it.”
Mr McKenzie, famed for having joined every major political party in the UK but never winning an election, most recently stood for Ukip in the 2012 Croydon North by-election, receiving 6 per cent of the vote.

All UKIP needs is another few hundred candidates of this calibre and we can all (except Sgt Oven) breathe easy again.

Winston McKenzie is famed for being a very talented and accomplished box-fighter in an era when the competition was extremely fierce. It is true that he has joined several political parties, down the years.

McKenzie certainly never won any championship titles as a pro boxer. McKenzie’s brothers, Clinton and Duke, were indeed both champions, and class acts. But in the ring, Winston was never in the same league. In a professional career between 1975 and 1982, McKenzie won six of his 16 fights.
                      How 'accomplished" can you get?

I guess all fantasists need a home

As I said, the competition was fierce when he was active. Depends how you define accomplished, I suppose.

I'd never heard of this chap but I guess if you were a boxer then coming second isn't usually considered to be a good idea?
So his election record is rather encouraging (for the non deluded I mean) the most he has managed is 7% of the votes in the London Assembly Election in 2012

I thought UKIP made a virtue of thinking outside the box?
