In the light of recent news has anyone stopped using this? We have a gravel drive to Grumpy Towers and my ground staff have used it with reasonable effect over the years. Are substitutes as effective and are they safe?

It probably sounds crude, but the easiest and cheapest way I've found to dispense with weeds that have long roots and are difficult to remove in their entirety, eg dandelions - particularly where they grow in crevices on stone or concrete paths - is to carefully pour boiling water on them. Care has to be emphasised, as neighbouring plants and grasses can also be killed off in the process.

That would require several kettles continuously on the boil!
