Given the opportunity dogs will happily help themselves to fruit and veg, indeed they can be a menace in a veg patch as were the labradors which the mother of a college friend bred; they were particularly partial to carrots which they would dig up(with obvious implications for adjoining crops) and raspberries, which they would hoover up off the canes, again not without damage as the fruit was often out of reach. Monty Don on Friday's GW commented on his dog which was eating large quantities of windfall apples with unfortunate results.

... my stepson in Edinburgh has just had a vet's bill for some £200 after his alsatian ate some onions. I had not realized that alliums were so toxic for dogs

It's all going to be "speculation" from now on, so we really mustn't expect government spokespersons or ministers to inform us about any of their policies.

Or should that be the anti-greens policy?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Was it case of ‘off to the vet or that’s shallot?’
