I wonder if any forum members will be able to take advantage of the new two-together railcard - or are we all on senior railcards already ?

Living within the Network Railcard area, I (and people travelling with me) can use my Network Railcard for certain journeys. It is very random though, I can go to worcester via london, but not from Salisbury to Bath.
It really is high time that sensible ticketing was introduced, but I'm not holding my breath.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number, I am a free man.

It is a complete failure to understand that railcards should aim to encourage anyone to travel more by train - for that to be achieved, they should not be restricted (as they are not in Germany) to any particular group of people.

I was surprised that.a 3 carriage train I recently travelled on from Edinburgh to Dundee was full to bursting, and that is often the case on some other lines. If rail travel is to be encouraged the operators could at least try to match the demand.
Or has the concept of 'service' in 'rail service' been permanently degraded?

we use two Senior Railcards [eg one each]but remain mystified by which trains we may not catch on the return journey ...... and the metaphysics of whether we are a 'couple' or not would be most troublesome ... on our trip to London last week we agreed [an event to remark upon] that we were now in that phase of life we had witnessed in our elders when young; where everything is either surprisingly much more expensive than it ever used to be, and/or very confusing [if not inoperable or ungraspable]
even though leaving the house is quite literally terrifying [especially for swmbo when i drive]; staying in has a daily terror all of its own ... white envelopes keep arriving demanding multiples of weekly income with menaces; and the HMRC seems to have been inexplicably careless in its calculations in previous years and implacably demands another £359-65p it forgot to ask for five years ago ... after a seeming fifteen years paying for telephone calls to automated services a young lady finally tells you to surrender it is hopeless trying to rework the calculations - they are correct and the rules are against you ....Last edited by aka Calum Da Jazbo; 03-03-14, 11:46.According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Talking of two together, next Monday and Tuesday I am going to avail myself of Scotrail's offer to the older amongst us of "travel anywhere in Scotland for £19 return". With my Senior Railcard, it will actually be £17, and I'm going to Mallaig via Glasgow and Fort William, a seven hour journey from here. A trip on one of the world's most scenic railways (the West Highland line), a pint or two and a freshly caught haddock or some prawns, a night's b and b, and the return trip the next day.
I think there are worse ways to spend one's birthday!
