    Visiting National Archives at Kew

has anyone managed to get thru yet - booking a visit was supposed to open at 12noon - the website seems to have collapsed - the delivered home page (if you can reach it as normally has an error message) seems to have removed the link to book a visit.

Amazing to think that as a child, in the 1940s/50s, you just walked in - no charges.

you could up to the great shut down in March 2020, prebooking just avoided the 2hours or so wait for the documents - since then shutdown has been a gift to all research archives - no awkward researchers disturbing the peace + quiet - if anything like the few days they opened pre Xmas then at most they are taking 1/3rd of precovid numbers probably somewhat less nearer 20% is my guess

ETA they finally rebooted their system just after 3pm and now all is well - my guess is that they didn't check for surge loads having publicised a 12noon opening for relatively few places
