I get South and North Creake mixed up in my mind, but South Creake has a music festival in the church in August, the North Norfolk Music Festival. There is quite a bit of chamber music in Norfolk, and perhaps there's some at this time of year as well.

Edited to add that Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream was performed in South Creake church to celebrate his centenary.

Norfolk also has my favourite place name in the world, Great Snoring.

There is a shell museum, housing Sir Alfred Jodrell's collection in Glandford in north Norfolk. It's worth a visit even if you are not especially interested in molluscs.
        Best regards,
        Jonathan

Lots of good ideas above. I went to the area ten years ago. I stayed in Sheringham for a few days - not the most prepossessing resort, but it has a preserved railway, and I took a train to Norwich one day to visit the city and cathedral. All well worth a look.

One thing I do remember was the many signs by the side of the road saying "CATS EYES REMOVED". Does this cruel practice still go on, I wonder.

... many thanks for the various recommendations, which influenced our visits.

We in turn wd certainly recommend all of these places we went to -

King's Lynn, Castle Rising, North Creake Abbey, North Elmham ruined cathedral, gardens at Corpusty Mill, village and hall at Heydon, the Boleyn church at Salle, the Cley smokehouse (thanks, Mr Gonggong!), Cley pottery, Holkham beach, Castle Acre priory and motte & bailey, Holkham Hall park and walled garden, Binham Priory, Morston quay and the boat to see the seals at Blakeny Point (loadsa seals - and terns, oystercatchers etc... ), Sheringham Hall and Park (one of Repton's favourites).

The weather was sunburn-inducingly splendid, and we were very taken by this part of the world.

              Thanks again for the tips

So glad you enjoyed it! You certainly seem to have packed a lot in. I'm always pleased when anyone likes Norfolk.

Have never been but it brings to mind L P Hartley.

                    That is a good thing.
