Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thanks for the good wishes. When I took the tumble there was no significant pain, just shock. I lay there for a couple of minutes to regain my composure, then found I could not move my left leg. I did not immediately recognise that I had broken anything but with no control over anything above the ankle of my left leg I had to accept that I had indeed broken the femur. I rang 999 and called for an ambulance and for the the police to force the front door. The ambulance took ages to arrive, even with the police officers chasing the dispatcher to raise the level of priority. However, the Royal Berkshire A & E got me sorted very quickly. Hurrah for the NHS on this occasion.

Anna
Crikey Bryn - so sorry to hear that news of a major op resulting after such a small tumble. Hope all goes well and recovery is swift as possible.
(Neighbours must have wondered what you were being arrested for when the police arrived with a battering ram to break down the door! )
