Yes - some whiskies benefit from a little water to smoothen the edges and bring out the full flavours (as was suggested on this very Thread by LMP in #31 [top of page 4]). Some of the whiskies that I previously didn't particularly enjoy are really brought to life by this method. LMP has done me a great favour!
I don't know Caol Ila; £25 sounds a real bargain!

Jokes aside, nearly all whiskies benefit from adding a little water. It takes the ABV down so your mouth is not anaesthetised and you can taste the complexity of flavours.
I don't know of any single malts that don't benefit therefrom. But don't add water to JW Black label blended. It ruins it. The stuff is fantastic straight out the bottle.
As Christopher Hitchens says JWBL is the favoured whisky of the Palestinian Authority, the Iraqi Ba'ath Party, much of the Saudi Royal Family and Gaddafi's Lybian dictatorship - they can't all be wrong!!!
This is the second time that I have posted the Hitchens vid. I also posted the AC/DC Thunderstruck vid twice and MrGG thinks he'd be rich if he had two0shillings a pop!

Yes Caol Ila is a nice drop - light by comparison to still my favourite Lagavullin, but it's very classy in the aftertaste.
Just now I'm sipping on a 12 year old cragganmore - bit generic but for a Speyside malt it has a bit of depth to to it, is also improved with a dash of water.
Seems that beefy won't be here tonight. Last night sampled Lagavulin again, and sniffed at Auchentoshan. Tonight will probably try Tomintoul and/or another shot of Laphroaig.

I can come here, it's just that I have little to say because I am limiting myself to drinking no more than 2/3 times per month and I've had February's quota!
Last slurp was Saturday 14th, a large glass of Ardmore. I think it's my favourite of all single malts.
Maybe because I've always loved Teachers - Teachers is Ardmore based, and as we know, Teachers prides itself on being a blend with at least 40% single malt.
I'm not keen on Lagavulin, but to be fair, it's been a long time since I've tasted it. And I have never tasted Auchentoshan, which deserves to be tasted, if only because of its wonderful name!!!!
