    Amongst today's Amazon Deals there is a Diageo "Classic Coastal Malts Collection" - a pack of three 20cl bottles of Clynelish 14, Caol Ila 12 and Talisker 10. It might be a good way of sampling three well regarded malts relatively cheaply (at least when compared to buying three 70cl bottles). Talisker is well known but Clynelish and Caol Ila (an Islay malt) much less so, despite them being highly regarded.

    The deal starts at 7:00pm for Amazon Prime members, 7:30pm for those not using Amazon Prime, and the deal price is likely to be around £28.

      I happened to walk through a fairly local Sainsbury's yesterday. They had some Old Pulteney for £23 and some Aberlour for £26 I think. http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/brand...ainsburys.html

      I didn't buy either, and I've had the Aberlour before, but I've never tried Old Pulteney so might go back. What's it like?

        I had a bottle last year - very nice indeed. I would recommend it strongly. Has hints of raisins and honey and does really have the claimed hint of sea-air salt. It's not peaty, nor over-sweet. I am talking myself into buying a bottle!

        I also had a bottle of the Aberlour and did not rate it at all. I would definitely not buy it again.

          Yes - I wasn't quite as unenthuasiatic (if someone bought me one, I'd not be sad; a decent "everyday" tipple, without that sense of a special occasion you get with so many others) - but at the price there are malts I much prefer to it. Old Pulteney at £3 cheaper is a much better bet.

            I wasn't so keen on the Aberlour I had much earlier on in the year, but others we had with us emptied the bottle enthusiasticaly.
            I think the Old Pulteney is calling - and not too much of a detour.

              Which Aberlour are you talking about? According to their website, Sainsbury's stock the 10, 12 and 16 yr old Aberlour whiskies.

              I've only had the Aberlour 16 and the Aberlour A'Bunadh. Both are "sherry bombs", so anyone with an aversion to that style of malt whisky you wouldn't like either. I found the Aberlour 16 to be a very pleasant whisky, very flavoursome. The A'Bunadh is cask strength so a very different kettle of fish.

                          It gets better after the air's been at it a while. Once I open a whisky, it last a maximum of two sittings, so I use one of these....

                              Apropos Aberlour. The 10 year old is in the top ten single malts listing in today's i Paper. Best Buy is Old Pulteney 21 Year Old at just £92.99 from masterofmalt.com
