If you regularly drink HP 12 yr old it would make sense to get a couple of bottles as the normal supermarket price is around £33.

Another good buy is Talisker 10 yr old: Amazon £25.90, ASDA £27.

I sampled a bottle of Talisker Skye as part of my mission to sample all the malts on offer at my local Morrisons - a surprisingly diverse range - and thought well enough of it to buy another, currently unopened. It doesnt stand out in my memory, but I'm confident you wont regret trying it. I've not yet found a single malt that disappointed.

On the strength of this discussion I snatched the last remaining botte of Talisker Skye from the shelf at my local Waitrose yesterday - list price £38...

              ... but a steal at just £23!

              Guilty as charged, your honour!

Right. I'm determined to end my drought. I have journeys to make early next week and calculate that I pass 4 large Aldi stores. I am going to prepare systematically and establish by phone on advance if any of them stock Highland Black, get a bottle or two reserved, and acquire some.

If I arrive back home on Tuesday night without at least one bottle in the car, I shall be sorely disappointed!

I was in Aldi two days ago and bought a bottle of their single grain Scotch whisky - it was a mistake.

I've been told on the phone that none of the stores I shall be passing next week has the product

Indeed, I was told its availability is regional and that London and the south-east is not one of the regions

Where was the store you found your last Highland Black? (your #360, on 11.11.15)

Hatfield. I will get you a bottle when I'm there next, which will not be until January. The Hatfield store has had HB 12 year old in abundance, over the last year or so. There were about 20 bottles there on Thursday when, for reasons only known to me, I passed it over for a bottle of single-grain whisky. Three doubles into the bottle and I'm very unimpressed. I might have just as easily thrown my money in the mud.

But dammit Hatfield is one of the stores I'm passing in the motor next week!!! .... the woman on the telephone said it's not in the 'right product region' !

Must be worth a shot calling in, then, this Monday, if there were so many a week ago, what do you reckon?

                              PS: thanks for the offer!

UPDATE: bolstered by Beefy!'s assurances about a Highland Black lake in Hatfield, I got back on to Customer Services and persuaded the helpful lady to put a call through to the Hatfield store (the public aren't allowed to call specific stores - it's one central number for UK customer services).

There are still 15 bottles sitting in the Hatfield branch

(Apparently the initial 'Computer Says "No"' answer was due to the fact that this is a core item and therefore... whatever.)

So I shall steer off the A1 at the relevant point on Monday and make a purchase

                                .

Incidentally: FOR3 Forum special mention to Aldi - their customer service waiting music is the last movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto No 27 K595... in a version for fortepiano and period-instrument orchestra !!(couldn't pick up which one - I suspect Bilson/Gardiner).

                                Class, or what?

If their whisky is as good as their musak, this could turn out to be a great Christmas!
