Talking about Whisky

A new one on me. I picked up a bottle of Aldi's own Highland Black 8 year old blended whisky today for £12.99. On my second double, this tea-time. It's really smooth and tasty (fruity and toffee). So far I'd say it's a very good substitute for Johnnie Walker Black label - and at under half the price! I think that's me sorted, from now on.
I'm adding 20% water (no need with Johnnie Walker Black Label - BUT, that adds 20% to your glass - even better value!!).
Judges at the International Wine and Spirits competition said the supermarket's whiskey has a 'super balance, and super smooth flow leading into long, fruit filled finish.'
Edit: Now I'd say it is very, very like Ballantine's Finest.

Probably will bring back one or two more malts next time we go to the far north.

Just poured a glass of Black Grouse.
Very nice mouthfeel.
Understated nose, no alcohol burn on the nostrils or on the tongue when tasted neat.
Mellow and uneventful. But quite a nice smooth taste with a teaspoon or two of water.
I'm getting none of the claimed peat-flavour.
Understated arrival, but it's citrusy and slightly smokey development is pleasing.
Surprisingly long finish with pleasant fruitiness.
I would recommend this, but below both Aldi's Highland Black (which is £6 cheaper than this £18.99 special offer bottle from Morrisons) and Black Bottle.

sounds nice though, might buy a bottle at Xmas.
Incidentally, why did everybody ignore the Dora Pejacevic link on the IWD thread? not cool enough, being Croatian, or something? not innovative enough?
I'm not mentioning it on the thread, because of the general silliness.

And as between the Aldi and the Black Bottle?"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
