There's one on the go here, with another waiting in a cupboard
About a year ago, we went round the original distillery - the Glenturret distillery - and sampled a range of the FG products. What was a surprise was that there were differences between them, and the Black Grouse version definitely tasted stronger, but apparently the variants all have exactly the same alcoholic content.

Noticing beefy's enthusiasm for Johnny Walker Black Label I looked in the cupboard and found a bottle brought back from a duty free shop quite a while back.
I'll make an effort to open it during 2015 - if not earlier. In the meantime we'll carry on with the malts, and possibly try the Black Bottle blend which does seem good value.

... well, the French - who take whisky more seriously than do most English - note that the Scots are a bit miffed that the 'best' whisky is apparently Japanese...

Jim Murray's Whisky Bible * notes that for the first time since the guide started twelve years ago not a single scotch whisky figures in the top five...

They do indeed - but such a claim for Japanese whisky nevertheless lacks merit (said the Scotsman!).

That said, have you (or has anyone else here) ever tried the products of http://www.welsh-whisky.co.uk/?...

Yeah, but how much do What Hi-Fi know about sound, for example?

I haven't opened it yet, but I've got a bottle of this, in the wings and a few years back it was voted the world's best whisky. It's not Scottish, it's Indian!!

Indirectly, yes - as part of The One, product of the up and coming Lakes Distillery.

What is "best" supposed to mean anyway?

Much the same as it does about recordings on Building A Library, I'd guess.

Perhaps costs about £25, with the (approx) £4.95 delivery charge, and the initial £10 membership discount - if anyone wants to try. Otherwise about £35.

That would be the rather lovely Penderyn? I first encountered it in 2003, from a shop (now closed, alas) in Dolgellau and a favourite ever since - delicious, simply delicious.

                          I see - a few weeks supply!

There's this interesting page within the site you linked to - https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/lostdistilleries - I'll read it more carefully later.

Buying 6 or more at a time is OK if you have the storage space, or drink fast! Around Christmas we have been known to buy various bottles from the Wine Society - their sherry for example, is very good. I'm afraid, contrary to what my presence here might indicate, that our consumption generally is lower than our input, so I'd really like to reclaim some of our storage space. The logical thing, of course, is to drain the nearly empty bottles first, but that's not always how things work.

Another strategy is to move house or go abroad for a while, and then either (a) have a party and/or (b) give most of the spare bottles away to friends and neighbours - or of course (c) give the more curious unopened bottles away for tombolas, raffles - other society or charity events.

Went to the Emerson String Quartet gig at the RFH this afternoon.

                            Haydn - Joke
                            Ravel - F
                            Beethoven 13

Having a few glasses of this........

Just back from another gig and having a few glasses of Macallan Gold.

                              Delicious it is too!

On my whisky journey, so far I'd say JWBL, Monkey Shoulder, Glenfiddich, Macallan and Glenmorangie are the tops.

Highland Park and Amrut come next, with Talisker trailing behind.

Blends are JWBL, Chivas Regal, Ballantines and then Teachers.

Opened a bottle of Bailie Nicol Jarvie a couple of hours ago. And wow, it's top notch stuff!

I'd never heard of it, but bought a bottle last year after reading about it on some whisky blogs and decided, as Neil Young says, tonight's the night!

Lovely grapefruity citrus nose. Soft and smooth on the tongue with a sweet and very subtle 'tang'. If you blind-tested this, I'm sure you'd swear it's a single malt.

Very reasonable price, about £17 in Morrisons the other day.

Here's a picture of Ralfy with a bottle of BJN - I haven't watched his review, I don't know what Ralfy reckons.
