    .

... and to go with, I hope you have sniffed out an excellent reasonably-priced claret from your friendly local coöp?

Quick shufti a t' internet: looks like red wine, rosemary and garlic sort of thingly. And stuff.
A spot of redcurrant jelly or cranberry added in would probably go. A bottle of Chilean or Argie Malbec would accompany well!

Heh, heh Yep - it's called "Claret, Bordeaux" (AOP) and is a blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon, bottled by Les grands chais de France, Landiras. It was what I would call, erm, 'reasonably-priced'. What you would call it, mon cher monsieur, I can only speculate

cloughie - my jar of redcurrant jelly - usual accompaniment for chops - is down to a few scrapings in the bottom, and Coop were 'out' when I looked.

Sounds good. I grilled a veggie burger, put it between two halves of a toasted muffin with Lurpak and accompanied it by poached sprouts (30p at Coop)with onion. Not too bad. Now for plain yoghurt with marmalade.

Just had the traditional dish of today. Haggis, tatties and neeps with just a wee tot of Whisky.

Kind of thing I like, being, sort of, 85% vegetarian i.e. not vegetarian at all, just like vegetables and fruit more than meat and don't eat much of it. I thought the Coop rack of lamb ( ¡ New ! ) was a challenge.

Verdict: perfectly edible 6/10 . If Salsa opus coronat, must practise my red wine sauce. If I'd been in a restaurant, I'd have sent it back. But the meat and vegetables were okay. Followed by taleggio and persimmon, and flat bread heated up from lunchtime. Filling .

Forgot about haggis. Didn't see any in the Coop. Perhaps the butcher will still have some …

Usquebaugh would probably do the trick, failing haggis...

Or maybe it is 85 % veggie........

I'm more for the grape these days. After years in Aberdeen* I developed a 'habit' for single malts, even in my nightly Horlicks. Now I'm more for an Armagnac, or Cognac, which I see as part and parcel of a meal. Whereas apart from with haggis, I'd seldom drink whisky with a meal.

                      * The university refectory served haggis pudd'n. Took me quite some time to pluck up courage to try it …

I think the trick may be to have it served as a canape, with lots of prosecco.......worked for me on NYE........

You can't beat the real thing. Talking of which one of my preferred pasty suppliers has recently started doing a Quornish Pasty with Bisto Gravy! Nuff said!

                            Mine's a standard steak!

There are other things you can do with haggis.

Here's a man taking his for a walk (Glasgow 1967):

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
