Than which anything is better - I fancied being a bit whimsical after all the pedantry elsewhere

Rumpole - I don't really blush at using Marmite™ - a very useful ingredient for vegans everywhere (Vit B12). The pasta sounds a good standby too.

Last week, I couldn't get any taleggio and was recommended to try provolone instead (presumably because they had some). This was the softer, table cheese, not the parmesan-like hard variety. I'd never had it before and as Italian cheeses go - it was pretty tasty. I had it chopped in my Brussels sprouts, apple and cheese salad where I would normally have vintage cheddar. It went very well with it.

That's definitely con gusto! (Apologies, I rarely venture into Pedants' Paradise, too dangerous.)

I'm going to. They didn't have my favourite lumachine pasta in the deli this afternoon so I had to have lumachette .

Do you know - I'm probably the only person among my friends and acquaintance who find that a stressful read But I've decided that it's just that they've changed the brand: Riscossa called it lumachine and Granoro call it lumachette.

They have about 50 sorts of pasta and when I asked the Signore what the difference was he said, Nothing. But the Signora said, Yes! is different on the tongue.

I've just made my Christmas puddings, using Delia's recipe which is always a success. However, I'll have to restrict my consumption a bit this year as I'm having to be on a low fat diet at the moment, which is surprisingly difficult and I do miss my cheese!

I was very busy with lots of things going on yesterday

Farinata batter was made after breakfast. Now that I've got the quantities right I can eat a whole one.

Gressingham duck legs. From the supermarket. 'The Remarkable Duck People' is the brand. Never heard of them.

Not had duck in a while. Marinated in light soy sauce and maple syrup. Roasted courgettes and boiled cabbage.

Led Zeppelin II is playing as the legs are roasting.
