British roast in the bag whole chicken tonight here.
Amazing value at 3 for £10 from the Coop (not the coop!).
Possibly not as happy a chicken as one from Waitrose might have been, but it was 'reared with care by farmers who share our values'.
We will probably get three meals from just the one chicken: tonight, enough left-over meat to go into Coronation chicken or a risotto tomorrow, and a hearty soup from the boiled-up bone stock.
Some organic Riverford veg from the weekly delivery to accompany (and make us feel a little more virtuous).

Mid to high virtue level here tonight( I think) as I am doing JK / Hairy Bikers Carribean soup/ stew.
My local Aldi was fresh out of Scotch Bonnets so a little substituting going on, but looking ok so far. Will report back.
Can I remind forum members of the requirement to post listening and beverage accompaniments along with their dishes please.
Some Elly Ameling Schumann and a modest G and T to go with.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Tesco Plant Chef Veg burgers, cabbage (with nutmeg).
Wine Society Portuguese red (already drunk while doing the crossword).
Villa-Lobos 'Popular' String quartet (and the other two on the CD).
Well, you did ask!
PS: Dessert was home-made gingerbread (Mary Berry) and cream.
I'm not aiming to be slimmer of the month!

From Elizabeth David, this beef and red wine stew with black olives is inspired by the flavours of Provence.
(one of my mother's regular dishes, happy nostalgia - and of course thinking of Mrs Ramsay's bœuf en daube in To the Lighthouse... )
Take time out of your festive schedule to make a beef stew that will reward you with enough flavour to inspire a masterpiece of modernism
with saffron rice.
A nice claret, a 2009 Pessac-Léognan.
salad and cheese.
Listening? - Mozart/Lichtenthal il Ratto dal Serraglio (Die Entführung aus dem Serail "adatto al'odierno gusto teatrale", 1838)

Music on while making: Tribute to Jack Johnson by Miles Davis, then the second disk of the John McLaughlin/Chick Corea Five Peace Band album.
Drink: water.
Dessert: Carrot Cake.

Yes, that looks delicious!
I found the recipe online:
This vegetarian mushroom bourguignon cobbler from The Hairy Bikers is a perfect warming meal for winter nights.
I'm pleased that Cheddar cheese is an acceptable substitute for blue cheese (it would be whether or not it was approved!).
I guess you make a substitute for the red wine component, too.
Tonight, at Casa Pulcinella:
Smoked salmon steaks
Wild rice and peas (frozen peas chucked in as the rice is almost cooked)
Broccoli
A bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Delibes: Coppelia (OSR/Ansermet, from the big Decca Ansermet French music box)
Dessert: Cadbury's Fruit and Nut!
