Not really cooking, but Ive just had some of the best jellied eels I've ever had in my life, and I've eaten miles of the things!

London eels are a thing of the past so we have to have inferior ones from Holland. However, the ones I bought from Sainsbury's earlier today were in a class of their own.

The live eels stall in Walthamstow Market is long gone, so it's to supermarkets that we turn.

Excuse my ignorance, but why the mention of Jamie?

I go in the Tower Bridge Road one from time to time. Great Concerti Grosso too!

Arments is good too. Haven't been to Cooke's for years, though.

Oliver's from out in Essex!!! Even further than that other fake Cockney, Billy 'Country-Boy' Bragg!

obviously all been living on take aways for the last few weeks.

Anyway, tonight at TS towers its what the recipe proudly calls " Luxury Fishcakes".

best one I have found for the humble cake of fish.

The trick is to cook and mash about a pound of spuds, and allow to cool completely.

Then, add 1 flaked Salmon/fish fillet of choice, and a tin of tuna. add paprika, twist of lemon, S and P, chopped fresh parsley, a big knob of butter (or at the mashing stage), and one beaten egg.

Form into 4 large balls, cover in flour, and then mould into fishcake shape.

With nice hot oil, shouldn't stick to pan, fry off for 15 mins, and hey bungo, a lovely supper. Serve with salad or something green, and a nice Debussy CD.

That lot will make 4 big fishcakes, ample for 2 really.

              Bon Appetit, music lovers.

AS if! No idea where I put my raw fish - I mean details about. And I put Good Soup on a separate thread where it attracted little attention. Their loss not mine, may I say . It has entered my list of staples.

                :-)

Like the simple fishcake, though, ts.

Cheers, FF, though you will have noted its a "luxury" fishcake.
Or perhaps " simple luxury fishcake " works better !!!

Saw the soup thread, am in complete agreement about good value soups. But where is the fun in agreement. I mean, how boring would "The Choir" board be if everybody agreed ?

Edit: Spinach and puy lentil soup on list to try .

Luxury and simplicity are not mutually exclusive (I did use organic lentils) :-)

                          ROFL.

Delivery was packed in a plastic bag mind.

some PMD or Bantock to go with?

PMD's music is best accompanied with swan terrine.

If you can't make it yourself, you can get the Vesta variety in your local corner-shop, but it might be a bit 'fiery' for your western-European taste-buds.

ironically, it isnt even on a corner.

I asked if they could stock canned pigs trotter in jelly, but they don't seem to be able to source them.

I'll be the judge of my taste buds, BTW. I can handle a madras on a goodnight.

Pigs trotters are delicious, but I'm not sure about setting them in jelly.

And when you can handle that well-known anglo-asian invention known as the 'legendary chicken phall', then you'll have my respect.
