That sounds delicious, but for us mere mortals - what recommendations for a rich, smooth, satisfying, hot chocolate drink readily available in supermarkets? I don't mind paying over the odds (as it won't be an everyday beverage) and one that is made with full fat milk of course, not hot water. (Gosh, I really fancy a cup right now!)

You're a Waitrose shopper: this is probably the best one I know

Well perhaps no longer but Alice B Toklas used to make a famous hot chocolate in times of rationing at 27 Rue du Fleurus for Gertrude Stein, Picasso, Cézanne, Ezra Pound, Woody Allen, et al.

                HOT CHOCOLATE

"3 ozs melted chocolate to 1 quart hot milk. Bring to a boil and simmer for ½ hour. Then beat for 5 minutes. The nuns made huge quantities in copper cauldrons, so that the whisk they used was huge and heavy. We all took turns beating. "

                Go Alice!

I have no choice - believe me if there was a Tesco here then that is where I would do all my shopping! I'll look out for Cali's suggestion (not all branches stock the same range) and interestingly, I see it's slightly cheaper per gram than Green & Black's hot choc.

                            It's much the safest option!

Looking that up for Anna has given me a huge yearning for these:

                              Plus métrosexuel, tu meurs...

Delivered by swans smoking Turkish tobacco (just to fuel your imaginings a little more).

That's an adaptation of the novel I've never encountered!

                                Quite a new twist...

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Please sir, may I have some more"

I think it's time for lunch.
