    Cocoa 'might prevent memory decline'

Drinking cocoa every day may help older people keep their brains healthy, research suggests.

A study of 60 elderly people with no dementia found two cups of cocoa a day improved blood flow to the brain in those who had problems to start with.

I don't know about you, but wild horses couldn't get me to drink cocoa in the late evening. Horlicks, Bournvita (my mother's favourite), Milo, Ovaltine - what's your favourite bedtime drink?

A small glass of 21 year old Springbank malt whisky. But as I've only ever tasted it once, years and years ago, it's unlikely to become a habit...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

It can't be that good then.

Horlicks is my favourite bedtime hot drink. Freshly squeezed orange juice is preferrable in hot weather.

Did the one sip lead to such outrageous behaviour that the magistrate advised against a repeat, Caliban?

The £400 price tag on a bottle has something to do with it!

Why don't you like cocoa, Ams?

Mind you, I agree, I'd rather have a hot choc drink during the day, outside - I associate it with sitting outside Paris cafés in autumn, swirling leaves all around and the cup held through gloves.

Never done milky drinks in the evening, mid-morning in cold weather, yes! Love old fashioned cocoa unsweetened, cannot abide Horlicks (very sickly and thick) but Bournvita (was it somewhat crunchy - never dissolved completely?) and haven't seen Milo in years, are you sure it's still available(?), were lovely.

Exactly that, Cali - Paris at Les Deux Magots it is for hot chocco

Plus the fact that basic cocoa can tend to have an unattractive gritty quality towards the end of the mug

Milo must be available online at least, surely?

Speaking of online, whatever happened to that sudden craze for coconut oil? Teamsaint mentioned it and suddenly everyone here was buying it from Amazon

The thicker and stronger the better in my opinion. They always make it too weak in cafes.

i see no one has pointed out that you have to remember to drink it in the first place ...... [coat etc]

instant coffee black, my last half litre of the day ....
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Oh yes Cali - we'll always have Paris!

I don't know Ams, I don't usually loiter in the hot chocolate aisle, I'll look next time I'm in Waitrose. I must say, having tried in the past a couple of the 'Lite' versions of various chocolate drinks that I don't think they have the flavour of the originals and leave a nasty chemical aftertaste.

Mind you, the French do insist on using that beastly UHT milk

A real hot chocolate, fresh full cream milk and made with grated chocolate rather than a drink powder, is unbeatable - and you'll never find that in Paris....
