    I usually make my own gin, but if it has to be shop-bought then Plymouth at least has the advantage of the maximum of alcohol with the minimum of distracting flavours before I add a pipette-drop's worth of Noilly Prat.

    "Bring me a gin and water, and make sure there's enough gin to take away that disgusting water taste"
    W.C. Fields.

    Ogden Nash: A Drink With Something In It

    There is something about a Martini,
    A tingle remarkably pleasant;
    A yellow, a mellow Martini;
    I wish I had one at present.
    There is something about a Martini,
    Ere the dining and dancing begin,
    And to tell you the truth,
    It is not the vermouth--
    I think that perhaps it's the gin.

    "-and leave out the olive, it just takes up space that could have gin in it!"
    Now who said that? Could it the great Fields again?

      Concerned friend: "Mister Fields, if you arent careful you'll drown in whisky!"

      W.C.Fields: "Drown in whisky? Oh death, where is thy sting?"

          Anyone tried Menorcan gin? Off there next month. Apparently made with grape distillates (there being no grain handy) mixed with juniper berries and developed to slake the thirsts of 18th century English sailors. The bottles look lovely!

            A bottle of G is for Gin.

            has come into my possession, and am giving it a try with soda and a slice of lemon, which is how they are serving it at Christies these days.

            Very nice like that too, quite delicate flavour I think.

            Cheers !!
