Wine Lovers - Beware the Reviews of What you are About to Drink

This is a memory from the past. I'm sure many of you will have had similar experiences.

although I think this is quite exceptional. I cannot remember the wine ( no, you're wrong, that's not the reason ! )

" Endowed with the scent of the dust on the linoleum at the head of the stairs."

( it tasted alright to me )

Blue Nun '12, if I'm not mistaken. A vintage year (but aren't they all where the Nun is concerned. )

An alternative view is that Nun of them are that good!

There are nun, as it's a nun-vintage blend... to ensure the Nun is consistently bland.

(Or is that what you meant?!)

A former golfing partner was married to a German Girl and they lived in Munich. When, in my naive non-expert way, I extolled the virtues of Blue Nun, her comment was "Blue Nun? You mean zis? Vee only use it for cooking!"

(Retreated in confusion and tried a nice Oppenheimer.)

Surely it is retsina with its notable bouquet of Flash Pine Fresh .

I'm rather fond of retsina consumed in the wonderful Greek climate.

As regards Blue Nun - it's Black Tower for me! Actually, how long ago was it that we had lovely, delicate German wines? I enquired in Oddbins a few years ago why they had no German wines and they said they weren't good enough any more. Or was that an excuse for the fact that they hadn't any in stock?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Couldn't agree more (ditto here in the right restaurant) but pick your retsina. Some are rank anywhere.

This one is far-and-away the nicest I've had (after a lot of trial and error ): http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=256649687
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Sadly climate change means that it has become more & more difficult to create those glorious wines of which you speak, french frank.

They are still out there but they disappeared from view behind lakes of Liebfraumilch and other nasty sugar water wines like that .

The Wine Society sells plenty but the Co-op still sells the lovely Von Kesselstatt Riesling Kabinett for a reasonable price . Waitrose sells one or two as well

Swiss wines , in my limited experience of them, have always struck me as not quite worth the money asked of them.
