    Non-stick Pans

My old one having sprung a leak, this afternoon I bought a new ridge-bottomed pan from a well-known emporium.

Reading the supplied guff (aka "care instructions") I was intrigued to see:

We recommend that birds should not be kept in the kitchen.

Very wise advice, probably, for all values of "birds", so I pass it on to you all as a Useful Household Tip.

Some people, mentioning no names, are not going to like this thread

It's a tip my cat should heed. Although he doesn't really 'keep' them (or perhaps he does, as there's no escape for them)

I've always believed birds should be kept in the kitchen, except when I let them out to head upstairs to the bedroom.

You talking about me? No, I don't object to schoolboy humour, however old fashioned it is, but it seems Mr. Pee is a follower of John Knox and his First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regimen of Women!
As for non-stick, I prefer my well-seasoned Le Creuset, they weigh a ton and cost a ton but I don't need men to help me lift them or purchase them (you see, I responded totally on topic without becoming hysterical or sexist)

Nay nay, Anna I was not referring to you, you have an excellent sense of humour. I took teams' post as it was written, birds = avian species and I felt that some people who are not fans of threads that don't follow a straight lIne might be upset.

I think i should be ashamed of myself, for an ambiguous post that I didn't really understand myself.

                Not big, not clever.

At least we have good examples to look up to and learn from like er, well some other board members.....

Edit: and just wait till Mrs TS gets home and see it.......

is that the start of a little known Blues song, Ferney?

Was there any context that might make the suggestion less startling? A mis-translation, perhaps? Or was the pan made in a country where birds might habitually be kept in the kitchen?

Actually it might be quite useful to keep a canary in the kitchen, as an early warning of gas leaks.

                        - looks more like a "lost" Bernard Cribbens to me!

We use the our wok as much as a frying pan for meat and veg or both. It is lightweight carbon steel and about 30 years old, a very cheap Chinese import when we bought it. It has become non-stick as it has seasoned itself with a cooked-on natural surface. It has a round bottom and sits nicely on the gas (... lightweight and round-bottomed, surely desirable attributes.)
