You are not alone. I've never heard of a Lion bar either (not the same as a Lyons Tea House, I presume).

Whatever happened to Cadbury's Plain Fruit and Nut, that's what I want to know.

Back in the mid-1970s I used to survive on a Lion bar and a bag of crisps for lunch most days. The things you do when young!

I think it's acceptable as both. Hoover is one of those brand names that has entered the language.

Did you label it with a biro, or were you interrupted by the tannoy?

Nouns and verbs are becoming increasingly interchangeable, ever since Peter Hain threatened to parliament-act the House of Lords

Tannoy was founded in 1920, first building public address systems. Today, Tannoy has become synonymous with high-quality studio monitors, hi-fi speakers and installed sound systems.

In Scotland they have things called Tunnock bars, and Tunnock tea cakes. These latter look very similar to the chocolate marshmallow things we had in England years ago, but I can't remember who made them. Anybody?

Getting back to chocolate, what happened to the Wagon Wheels of old? They were "marshmallow things".

Have they shrunk or is that just that I've got bigger? They were much were dearer than the other biscuits that were available in the Hackney Baths cafeteria after swimming , back in the day, so could only look. But made up for it as an adult! But weren't they bigger in the 1960s?

Tannoy was often used as a verb. 'He's not around - you'll have to tannoy him.'

Prolly they got small AND you got bigger.

As mentioned earlier, Bar Six only ever seemed to be on sale at Swimming Baths.
