    This probably varies somewhat from store to store; I would certainly give preference to my local Waitrose (only it's not local, as my nearest one is almost 30 miles distant in a foreign country) over my local Marks but, as I said, there's so many other fine outlets selling excellent meats locally here that it's rare that I buy any from Waitrose.

        I've been stuck in a lift several times - on one occasion a friend kept me calm by reading from Cold Comfort Farm down the lift shaft

                I'm sorry - I don't understand; has the above been tested and found to contain traces of equine DNA? A fish called Wanda sounds daft enough but a horse called Nigel takes the biscuit, methinks.

                I've just heard, incidentally, that a viola player has submitted a formal written complaint to Tesco on the grounds that a burger purchased from its Ascot store contained traces of horsehair.

                            horse is eaten in many places and presumeably helped the manufacturer meet the required fat content as could spice low fat horse meat with poorer quality dead cow - however since all beef meat + meat products on sale in UK are supposed to be from cows whose provenance is known via an expensive computer system in order to prevent BSE transferring to humans it would appear that someone has at least driven the horses if not the coach thro these regulations - also would the same supplier be happy to throw in a few over age or sick cows as obviously the vetinary inspecter at the abbatoir can't tell the difference between cow or horse (or even pig it seems)

                              Why do we allow such dullards to stay in these jobs?

                              I have no objection whatsoever to eating horsemeat as long as: a) as I'm told I'm doing so; b) there is clear oversight of its provenance according to agreed criteria; c) that all horses intended for human consumption are treated well prior to and at the moment of killing; and d) as much of the carcass is used as possible.
