You have persuaded me Anna. I'll get a couple of big chicken joints and if anyone calls in the middle of the meal I'll pretend to be out.

I've never understood the anti-turkey thing, I've never not loved the Christmas turkey, it's never dry, it's tasty and there's always enough to pick over cold afterwards and mash with apple sauce, stuffing, sprouts all chopped up with seasoning to make a delicious sandwich filling later in the week.

We toyed with goose a couple of years, to see what all the fuss was about - tasty but not enough to keep folk going.

Like you Anna, only the foreign cards done so far. Need to do a few English ones later. Family bring cake, and we descend on an aunt in S. London on "the day" who will do the cooking. I just make sure there are sufficient bottles in, plus pork-based products in the fridge (major pork pie and ham fans, we are ). Decorative greenery will come in late (possibly the 22nd) as it has to last and not look too bedraggled and dry for visitors from abroad over the New Year holiday.

I have absolutely no qualms about ignoring the phone or unannounced door-bell if answering is remotely inconvenient!

Local Co-op have some very small chooks but would like something for a change, turkey. I wonder whether anyone sells cooked turkey slices. That ready meal doesn't sound much.
                      salymap,

Is a putremainder something past it's sell by date?

My general experience with goose , is that if you are the one preparing/cooking/carving the b***er, you also need to wear one of those white protective suits for chemical spillages.

My ideal Xmas preparations...tickets secured for a big boxing day game, everyobody organised so that they don't want a lift after beer o'clock, and a nice big cake made with no stupid marzipan.

Oh, and I like turkey. With plenty left over for sarnies at the boxing day footy.

Thank you for that ferret.I do try to make the space bar work and usually go back and check. A combination of weak wrists and a flat horrible keyboard. Good word though
