        2nd batch in progress at the moment - this will be the whisky batch. Third batch later in the week - I'm going to try a spicy one - cinnamon, or cardamon or both. I used to have a good spiced recipe that I got from the London Evening Standard many years ago, but unfortunately it's gone astray.


        (& yes, I do eat a lot of marmalade, & give jars away to friends )

          Just one last () query. I'm not sure whether the pith from the oranges goes in the muslin bag with the pips and bits of lemon or in the pan with the juice and peel. At the moment it's in the pan ...

              Thinking back fifty years again..... If the oranges were minced or put through a food processor, the pith would totally disintegrate during cooking, so no need to separate it. I don't think you'll have a problem.

                It certainly is! Last year's Burns lunch with a fine bottle of Jura. Bit suspicious of what's in the small jar - looks like one of the seven jars of pickle/chutney/relish I had for Christmas last year ... [NB I don't go for bashed neeps and tatties: I like my veg al dente]

                  hercule, that looks like a haggis, with the whisky alongside. Not sure what the jar is, though.

                  Your spelling is absolutely right. What is rather unusual however is that the neeps and tatties surrounding the haggis have not been bashed and champit respectively.

                  I've just had some for lunch - quite delicious.

                        I've just consulted Mrs Beeton on your behalf, and she says, in two recipes out of three, that the pith should be in the bag, not in the marmalade. (In the third she doesn't mention pith.)
