Dewsbury ?Thats nearly abroad to Halifax folk !

And I really hate it when people pick you up on a spelling when you are just about to change it so it can't be quoted !!

Baked beans/chilli sauce, spicy scrambled eggs spooned over...

Vivaldi Potatoes speared with chopped garlic, steamed then buttered...

Burgen (Rye) Toast, drenched hot with butter and acacia (clear) honey...

(latter served with mulled Italian Red/Cognac, add honey to taste...
      or anytime)

Curry n' chips never fails! (pref. Cantonese).

When I had a sweet tooth I would add double cream to Haagen-Dazs Belgian Choc Ice-Cream.
I lost my sweet tooth and maintained my dress size.

Can't help being quick on the draw... It's a gift!

(If you want to amend, go ahead, and then I can delete my jibe and you can delete it from your posts! )

Well I can content myself that I have been just a small part of enabling you to take that very specific gift out into the world for all to enjoy !!

I should prolly go back to footy forums....

(I blame the spelling on those German Brahms lyrics I have been pretending to read !)

strangely, the music , and politics threads on footy forums are far better than the football threads ! But its all rock and so on, of course.

If you ever need a quick vox pop on a current issue, they are THE place. The folks do seem to split 2;1 mail/Socialist Worker..but that is footy fans. At least the spelling is commendably dismal.....

When I was first working in central London in the '70s I used to go to an Italian-run sandwich bar near Fetter Lane, and a favourite sarnie for lunch was brown bread, peanut butter, banana and honey. I think another favourite, which I can barely manage to describe now, was liver sausage and beetroot - but it's possible that the passing of the years has clouded the memory. Oh, Camembert and peanut butter too: must try that again.

I should think the eating of that would cause memory failure..and if that was a favourite, what were the rest like?!......

Pity it wasn't a Greek sandwich bar in that street.

I still like a cheese and HP sandwich, but saturday lunchtime is best for that, obviously.

I have just described an incident on the "Phrases you love" thread (post #197) which took place in Huddersfield. If Dewsbury is 'almost abroad' to the folk of Halifax, presumably Hudds. is practically on the Côte d'Azur...?

Ah, I am currently making use of the litre bottle of Bells I got from Tesco for £15 last week. My mix, however, is with dry ginger ale. I seem to have gone off whisky macs of late. Tonight, however, it's 10 year Talisker with spring water from certified organic land in the Ochil Hills.

I did make up the "almost abroad" bit, obviously. Our families come from Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford . Never heard mention of far away Dewsbury. On doing a bit of the old family genealogy ,they were a bit gutted to discover that the classy West Riding roots covered a move only a generation or two back from the distant S. Yorks land of Barnsley/Wombwell.

sorry, way off topic now. Chips and gravy anybody? No, me neither !

What's so special about Cantonese chips?

er, no...i thought it was still the Galpharm, anyway...apparently not.
are the pies good?I can honestly claim never to have eaten a football stadium pie. the nearest I have come to footy food in recent years is a quick glance at the big menu board at Millwall() last season, where I spotted the £5 meal deal, which was clearly neither a meal nor a deal !

I understand that stadia up north do sometimes have a good pie though. Only decent pie shop in So'ton closed down years ago. Probably Thatcher to blame. Used to be our treat on saturday morning overtime back in the 80's. Happy days.

Sorry , lot of pointless rabbit there.
