Scallops should be fried in a VERY hot pan in a tiny puddle of olive oil - ca. 1 minute a side - then stored on a plate in the oven, in an equally tiny puddle of butter, until everything else is ready. No spices or seasoning, unless you don't want to taste that sweet, delicate, SCALLOPY flavour...

Breakfast: Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Egg
Lunch: Wiltshire Ham and Beef Tomatoes

Late Night: Glenmorangie and Ginger Wine (Whiskey Mac)
As you can see, I am a man of modest tastes!

Had it, and can only now think of that dish as Sunday Breakfast. Mmmmmmm......I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Modest is not quite the word I would apply to the taste of one who would taint the likes of Glenmorange with ginger wine.

I was only boasting. Actually, as a mixer I use whiskey bought in Lidl for less than half the price of a single malt.
(I keep my Glenmorangie locked in the safe)

I get whatever the Coop has lopped a few pounds off, expecially if I have £3 off voucher too. Coincidentally, that was Glenmorangie last week. Not really one of my favourites (I haven't bought this since my days up in Eburdeen where it was the everyday stuff you put in your breakfast porage), though I tried last night to detect the various subtle tastes which they describe on the label. I prefer a softer, west coast flavour. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I have always maintained that one can easily obtain one's required "five - a - day" (and more) with a decent post-prandial :
coffee - counts as a fruit
sugar in coffee - counts as a vegetable
cream in coffee - a vegetable, processed 'naturally' by a cow
brandy - counts as a fruit
chocolate - counts as a fruit
cigar - a vegetable.
No need to mention here other vegetable products such as cocaine, heroin, cannabis...
I'm about to offer my marketing skills to the "eat healthy" campaigns for deep-fried chocolate bars in North Britain...

BTW Is that the way you always spell porridge in Eburdeen?

Chocolate Raisins have counted as one of my 5 a day for some time now.
Beer and cider must count as superfoods.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

My homemade cross between bread AND butter and bread pudding certainly contains all five. Milk, eggs, fruit, mixed spice, butter. It often supplies me with a nourishing supper when tired.
And I won't hear a word against Stone's Ginger Wine. My many tablets state 'NO Alcohol'. Well the wine has the impression of being non alcoholic when diluted with a little water so it's ok to drink
