Could never stand spam, either in its original, pink homogeneous appearance and taste, or in the school frittered version with fat oozing out all over the place - yuk. Pork luncheon meat was a preferred alternative - ah, no one's mentioned that!
When did you last eat spam? [... if ever]

I saw a packet of Butterscotch AD in a supermarket a year or two ago: bought it, made it, wolfed it! Delicious!
(The only other foodstuff of yore I've done that with was a Vesta Beef Curry - a highlight at home in the late 60s - which I'd never seen in a supermarket in the last 30 years till I popped into one on the trudge away from West Ham's ground after a match: lo and behold, Vesta beef curry!! Bought it, made it, tried it... :yuk emoticon: Salty and - pretty vile generally. )"...the isle is full of noises,

Completely off topic [or not?] I've just had a nice lunch of a tin of Macaroni Cheese with frozen runner beans. MC 75p or £1.25 for two tins. I would have scorned it a few years ago but it was quick and tasty -and cheap. Not that I'm on the bread line but there are plenty of other better things to buy.
One day I shall even try ams' pork pies that he's always having. Never had a shoppork pie, haven't lived

I quite like that pink german sliced sausage, very garlicky, not sure what it's called, it's quite small rounds and I have been known to eat mortadella occasionally. Waitrose do nice mixed packs of German, Spanish and Italian thin sliced salamis and hams. For proper ham I buy sliced off the bone from the butcher. I rarely buy pork pies although my butcher makes his own.
We had as children, cannot remember whether Angel Delight or Instant Whip, I too thought the butterscotch was absolutely scrummy. Might even try and buy some to see if younger tastebuds were lying!

I tend to lump spam, corned beef and Fray Bentos steak and kidney pies together - as things I once liked, up to a point. I can't remember when I last had spam - probably a few years ago in a test to see if I still liked it much. I wasn't very fond of corned beef, but in corned beef hash I recall it being good. However recent experiments have suggested otherwise. Re the spam - maybe it depends how it's cooked.
I see the discussion has moved on to Angel Delight and or Instant Whip. Perhaps it's time to see if I still like those, after many years.
