But, those recipes are an accompaniment, not a meal cooked entirely from fruit, merely sauces - to enhance the vegetables!! And very nice as is apple sauce with pork. roast tatties and greens, just try serving up the apple sauce sans everything else for sunday lunch But, the veggies served up on their own minus pork are totally yummy.

Two not yet mentioned:
'Golden Noble', a cooking apple that my mum used to reckon was the tops.
'Quar(r?)enden', a deep crimson eating apple.
Quarenden is so antique it isnt even mentioned in my 'The Apples of England' by H.V. Taylor (1948).
And vinteuil, I think that's JAMES Grieve and CHARLES Ross, unless you've been up to some interesting hybridisation.
Wonderful evocative memory. When I was very small, we had a big garden and lots of apple trees, and my mum used to sell the surplus. A notice hung up on the garden gate, 'Apples for sale, penny a pound for cookers, twopence for eaters'. We got a lot of customers, and before you scoff, this was the 1950s and a few pennies and twopences came in very handy.
I recall that one of my close shaves with death (there have been others) came when I put up the ladder to get the best 'Charles Ross' from the top of the tree, only to find that the ladder wasnt any too safe as I approached the top. WhERR! ... but I grabbed it and just got stable again before the whole lot came crashing down.
Alas, one can only remember. The whole lot was sold off for housing in the early nineteen sixties. I cant bear to revisit, its better to remember ...

technically probably a veg, or nut, or something i suppose.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

But, they are not essential to life
Sorry Anna I thought you were proposing that you (one) could have a balanced diet long-term by just eating veggies. That is not what you mean.
