I think you've had a lucky escape, Caliban - you know what she's like on Co-op Valpol - imagine how she'd be on a decent Barolo!?!

No, it's not you, it's me .......... Shall we start again? I take it that's a No then.
So, spag bol has caused us all to get up in arms, but there is no perfect recipe, I use lamb or pork, but it really should be a mix, as mentioned above, of pork, veal, etc., and, absolutely, cooked down to the 9th degree, do the British not understand the raison d'etre behind a ragu?

          Oh ok then!

          Fancy a big bold Brunello?

(*Deletes dubious reference to 'stunning length'*)

I like to live dangerously, though but...!

Yes, there certainly was that belief about tomatoes, but tomatoes were never added to Scotch broth, as there weren't any in granny's hieland hame in the middle of winter. Leeks, carrot, turnip, kale, and barley of course, would be added to a stock made from mutton.

Agree about Baxters - excellent soups, and their other products are good too.

I strongly suspect that if you appear on the doorstep clutching a bunch of fresh, tender organic celery, you'll have more than a fighting chance!

I reckon if Anna came to Dundee and tried my home-made broth, neither you nor amsy would stand a chance.

you can't know how you've gladdened an old man's heart mangerton - why have Trident when a bowl of Mammy Mangerton's Auld Scotch Broth'll do the deterrence trick at a fraction of the price

Baxters, like other Scottish products I consume, like Nairns Organic Oatcakes, are really wholesome and tasty. My weakness for Tunnocks products is to my eternal shame ...
Edit: Crikey, only just seen the above posts! Well, I think mangertons's broth sounds fine, Amsey's obviously not my type, and there is a question mark over Caliban. So, I think I'll go offline before it becomes more complicated!
