Bought a rather nice selection of beers from a local brewery yesterday, called Dark Star. (Nothing to do with Star Wars!)

    Second to Harveys of Lewes!

Hi BBM, this beer - anything to do with Star Wars?

Zywec & Ruddles County Ale, the two best beers on this planet?

No probably about it! Definitely the best lager in the universe. I first tasted this when in Poland 23 years ago where it's pretty well ubiquitous and was delighted to find it in out local Tesco a while ago. However, it's since disappeared and the only Polish lager on offer is Tyskie which isn't in the same class. Zywiec is my beer of choice (when I can get it).

#470 - Ah Ruddles - haven't had any of that for years. I can't say I have fond memories of it, though I don't list it along with Greene King as a beer I'd rather forget. If I had a pint put in front of me I'd probably drink it, though 4 pints?!! I'm not sure that I would enjoy it though.

I also have recollections of Adnams - but in that case at least my memory is neutral. The Polish beer sounds interesting - I've had the other one - Tyskie - which is OK but as mentioned not more than that, but the Zywtec sounds worth looking out for.

If that's a real pub looks nice, and at least not that one in that flood troubled village which plagues R4 most evenings and on Sunday mornings - with the currently grumpy landlord. Can't someone put that particular long running programme out to grass - then preferably burn the stubble?

Re the Jarl - I did "sample" the bottle from Morrisons, and it was very pleasant, but not necessarily better than some others with a fresh fruity sort of taste, and some of the others are significantly cheaper. Would I pay £2.25 for another bottle? If money no object perhaps yes, otherwise probably no.

... I had not realised the control that four big groups have over almost so much the beer sold - the chart below is quite amazing :

Alarming! ... but luckily many small independent brewers are still thriving. We enjoyed a most luscious guest ale at our local after choir practice this evening .

Two of the best brewerys in my area Harveys and Dark Star. Real difficult to beat these two!

Spotted in Asda a few days ago. Will try it this evening! £2 for 500ml. I'm a London Pride lover, don't usually drink continental beers or lagers so trying this as it comes recommended.
