I had a can of that lying around. probably well past its use-by date, but was OK. Slightly more recently I had a bottle of Tapping the Admiral - Shepherd and Neame. it was OK. The rating here is about right -
http://www.aleguider.com/2011/03/she...dmiral-40.html - fairly average, but drinkable.

I've not seen or even noticed the Channel 5 programme. Is it good?

Haven't seen it. I suspect it may be...

A pint of St Peter's Old style Porter, 5.0%. I thought I would give this a go, as I have never tried this kind of ale before. Rather good ale, as it happens! Be ideal in colder months!

And a very aesthetically satisfying bottle design, I seem to remember?

Indeed it is, the same design that has never changed, since they started!

Had a bottle of 'Bavaria', yesterday. Apparently from Holland! Terrible stuff. Never again.

Reverted to Efes. Great lager, but avoid the one brewed on licence in England. It's nowhere near as good.

Bavaria was a staple in my student days.

Its benefits were low price and reasonable alcohol content, and the stocked it at our nearest off license.

Tonight - a bottle of Blue Moon - http://www.bluemoonbrewingcompany.com/Home from the USA.

Tastes similar to some continental beers, such as Hoegaarden.

I'd never come across it before. Happily, my student days were fuelled by IPA (and the then, statutory Snakebite )

Mine too - Greene King IPA, and also Tolly's Original

Just realised I haven't heard of the latter for years - Tolly's was taken over and ultimately ended up as part of Greene King in 2005

Yes, indeed! Green King IPA and Tolly's original!

I suppose it's all Vodka and Red Bull, these days.

Havn't had Greene King IPA in ages. Last time I had a sup was when I thought it didn't taste too good. Or could it have been how it was kept, that was putting me off?
