As I mentioned before, Scotney Castle, have their own brewery. But at £4 per bottle! Or £13 for four in a case!

Greene King's William Clarke Golden Ale is on draught in the pavilion at Trent Bridge throughout the Test (the beer being named after the Victorian Kerry Packer who founded the ground). Light, refreshingly bitter and amber coloured, ideal for the hot conditions. In bottles too. Golden ales are certainly in vogue and winning over non-bitter drinkers.

Very nice, Belgrove! Have you been at the match throughout ?

It's OK, though I prefer the Badger ones - particularly the ones they had a few years ago - wasn't one Golden Champion? It might even have been available on draught in some pubs - I can't remember, but I stocked up on quite a few bottles when they were on sale in Morrisons.

Some of their others - such as Golden Glory - taste of fruit - in the case of that one I think it's peaches. I had some of the Duchy ones when they were on offer in Waitrose a few months ago.

Ah yes Badger Ales are very good. Your right about that the one called Golden Champion.

With my tastebuds effectively numbed by the Hoppenhammer, the only thing I'll be able to taste is a couple of BrewDog Punk IPAs for the 3rd Act of Siegfried.

A heavy and severe hop content with a refreshing and distinctly grapefruity finish. Mindblowing.

The beer that is, not Act 3 of Siegfried. Though on second thoughts...

New Zealand hops, so no points for responsible air mileage.

I must be considered a little strange, but I consider drinking beer to be -

                                ...a punishment.
